Cóir — where it began
Firstly, it was not Youth Defence but the ‘No to Nice Campaign’ founded by the Christian Solidarity Party, with members of several other organisations, that was the forerunner of Cóir.
Secondly, his assertion that Cóir members are vocal supporters of the Catholic hierarchy shows a glaring ignorance of recent events in the Lisbon Treaty debate. When Cóir pointed out that passing the Lisbon Treaty could lead to abortion, some bishops spared no time in attacking it.
Besides, Cóir campaigns on issues of sovereignty, economics, and legal protection for human rights. It is difficult to see how Mr Walsh believes the Murphy report is a topic for comment by such an organisation.
