Movie legend deserves award of a lifetime
She was born Maureen FitzSimons in 1920 and she’s known for many famous films like The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Charles Laughton, Miracle on 34th Street with John Payne and Natalie Wood and the classic The Quiet Man with John Wayne, to mention but a few.
Her last film was Only the Lonely (1991) in which she co-starred with John Candy and Allie McSheedy.
She now lives in retirement tending to her homes in various countries in Europe.
Since the season for awards has begun, would it be too much to ask that this vivacious, gracious red-haired beauty be given a Lifetime Achievement award for her contributions to the motion picture industry between now and her upcoming birthday?
How about it, you folks in charge of the Academy Awards?
As a film fan I’m astounded Ms O’Hara has never been nominated for any award and I must agree with Prof Des MacHale of the Quiet Man Film Club (Letters, January 16) that she is indeed a national treasure and should be recognised for the many hours of pleasure given to movie fans around the globe.
It surely would bring an Irish smile to that unforgettably beautiful face.
