Playing by the rules

DAVID HERMAN (Letters, January 16) was refused entry to the US because his “passport was rejected on a new and purely technical ground”.

Playing by the rules

This can only mean he either did not find out the requirements before traveling or did not bother to comply. He states that the measures are “nonsensical” and the people who enforce them are “hostile”.

He describes the attempts to enforce normal regulations as “intimidation of a couple of pensioners”. Does he think pensioners should be considered above suspicion? Maybe he wants to be allowed travel with his bus pass.

He then seems to suggest that because US security made a mistake (albeit a big one when a man boarded a flight with a bomb), they should cancel security measures for pensioners.

If Mr Herman is not prepared to comply with security regulations, I suggest he confines his future holiday plans to Ireland.
