DURING general elections many of us opt to support an independent candidate mainly due to frustration with the political parties.

However, no sooner have they been elected than these independents are often in negotiation with the very party we had hoped to have removed from power.

Using whatever tactics are necessary to retain power, the major party will promise to build hospitals, roads, schools, etc, in the independents’ constituencies to garnish their support.
