Government aims to divide and conquer

I WISH to commend Fergus Finlay on the first balanced article I have read on public service cuts (November 17).

It goes some way in renewing my faith in journalism as opposed to the lazy, sensationalist drivel being produced by some of his colleagues in your publication and many others.

The simple truth is the Government which people blindly kept returning to office in the “good times” is responsible for where we are today. These same people are again blindly accepting the misrepresentations being put out by this same Government. They should see the approach for what it is – divide and conquer.

The Government speaks about restoring confidence in the economy but is not prepared to take the tough action needed to achieve it. In the US they threw the Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff into jail.

But what did we do with those who recklessly gambled our children’s futures away? Nothing except bail them out. Instead we choose to chastise those who take public abuse and aggression on the chin with courtesy and dignity on a daily basis. This abuse is misdirected because we don’t tell our politicians enough is enough.
