Minister robs the poor for mistakes of the rich

I WISH to express my utter disgust at the way the most vulnerable in our society, particularly the elderly, are being treated by the Government. The proposed introduction of prescription charges for medical card-holders is yet another example of robbing the poor to cover for the mistakes of the rich.

According to a report from the WHO in 2003, older people consume 50% of all prescribed medications.

Health Minister Mary Harney’s justification for the proposed introduction of prescription charges is to discourage over-prescribing of medications.
