Do we really need another motorway?

IN a time of huge economic crisis, it’s somewhat bemusing to note that the NRA are beavering away on plans for an outer orbital ring road to join up Drogheda, Navan, Kells, Kilcock and Naas.

Do we really need another motorway?

Ring roads, by their nature, tend to have a long and often unfortunate history. I suspect the passage of this one will be no different. I can’t see the logic for it, though I note its concept’s main cheerleaders are Meath County Council. Given what we have witnessed at the Hill of Tara, within the Boyne Valley and at Trim Castle, it bodes ill for the heritage of this fine county.

A feasibility study is available on the NRA website, if you are prepared to do a little digging. I would urge people to study it.
