Drumm’s bonus far from our constitutional ideal
Yet our constitution states all citizens should be treated equally.
HSE chief executive Prof Brendan Drumm is entitled to a €70,000 bonus for outstanding work in 2007 when cancer patients died due to cock-ups in hospitals in the midlands, Limerick and Cork and probably other areas the public were never informed about.
Many at the time were demanding that Health Minister Mary Harney step down. To think, it takes a person on social welfare six years to get what Prof Drumm receives as a bonus – not his salary – and to further think ministers are now considering cutting/freezing social welfare and drastically reducing children’s allowance in the budget?
