Liberator’s descendants left out in the cold

COULD someone please explain to me why the closest living relatives of Daniel O’Connell were not invited to the opening of his refurbished crypt at Glasnevin on October 21.

Jeffery O’Connell and Ricarda Cunningham are Daniel O’Connell’s great-great-grandchildren and are currently living in Dalkey, Co Dublin. What a disappointment for Jeffery and Ricarda, but a greater sadness for the state that they were not invited.
