The truth of it all

FOLLOWING the lead of Mairéad Scannell (Letters, October 22), I am going to “give political correctness the boot” and deliver some real Truth.

The only “gay agenda” here is that of certain people whose narrow-mindedness and negativity do not permit them to see gay people as having rights equal to those of everyone else.

“As a Catholic” myself, I find it insulting to see my faith used as a weapon against the likes of Stephen Gately who was given a Catholic funeral in his Catholic parish.

If this is a perversion of the Truth, it must also surely be an indication that said Truth changes with the times.

Of course, Ms Scannell is entitled to her opinion, but what gives her the right to speak as though it is anything more than just that?

I presume the Truth did set Dónal Óg Cusack free, but it most certainly didn’t out him; he had the courage to do so himself and this is why he is so rightfully lauded countrywide.
