AIB needs new broom

I HAVE been an AIB customer for 35 years. The advocacy of Padraic Fallon, former director, in favour of appointing an insider as chief executive ignores public sentiment, however strongly he believes the candidate in question is the “obvious man for the job”.

AIB needs new broom

Taxpayers and the customers of those banks seeking State support need competent leadership with a fresh mandate, unencumbered by the collective decisions and culture that bought these banks to the pathetic position they are now in.

The appointment of new leaders in all of these banks is a matter of fundamental credibility and having committed €11bn of taxpayers’ resources so far, the voice of the finance minister on this matter had better prevail if public confidence in Irish banks and building societies is not to evaporate totally.
