Government can still redeem itself

THE Lisbon Treaty is, I hope, at last, out of the way — and now this Fianna Fáil/Green Party government must get to grips with the economy.

Government can still redeem itself

The vast majority of the electorate know that both of these parties are facing political oblivion and indeed they deserve no less for the way the major party behaved over the past 15 years and since the Greens joined them. There is a way they can redeem themselves. They should forget popularity and take the economy by the “scruff of the neck” and not wait for a doomsday scenario.

Firstly, get rid of most of the present ministers, they have been there too long.

Indeed many contributed to the downfall of the economy. Secondly, a government of unity should also be considered, picking the best business, academic and political brains in the country.

For the sake of the country, all official and unofficial union activity should cease or be curtailed for at least a year while the government deals with this crisis.
