Ganley returns to a changed landscape

DECLAN Ganley’s grand re-entry into the Lisbon Treaty referendum campaign should be a positive for the Yes side.

This failed politician who was rejected by us voters in the north-west last June whas resumed playing on fears and offering spurious arguments. He again joins up again with Sinn Féin, Cóir, UKIP, the right-wing party in Britain and strident left-wingers who are anathema to his business interests. Very strange bedfellows indeed.

He is the last sting of the dying wasp of right-wing Ireland and organisations with secret agendas.

There is news for Mr Ganley. Ireland is a changed place since June 2008 when it could afford to frolic with all sorts of diversions from the new liberal nouveau riche era redolent of Celtic Tigerland, when we thought we could rule Europe in the way our forebears had spread Christianity. Given our disastrous economic management at home we need the guiding hand and help of Europe and the ordinary, returned-to-earth Irish people will act accordingly when their own interests are at stake.

Because there is an old Chinese proverb – “Never get between a hippo and the water”.
