Minor cuts

THE reductions in TDs’ and senators’ allowances are miserable.

Their phone allowance is reduced from €6,348 to €5,700 and, believe it or not, unvouched miscellaneous expenses from €5,482 to €5,000 and unvouched constituency allowance from €2,745 to €2,500 – a total saving of €1,372 per year on a high salary. Are we taxpayers to stand up and applaud this or just take it in our stride – as usual.
