Immigration helpline was not very helpful

ON last Tuesday morning, on behalf of a work colleague, I rang the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) to obtain clarification of a letter he had received.

My first call was around 9.15am to be told the helpline only operated from 10am-2.30pm. Fair enough.

After 10am I rang four times up to 10.30am and received the same message that the helpline operated from 10am-12.30pm.

I then rang at 10.42, 10.50, 11.00, 11.10 and 11.20 only to receive the same message as before.

No wonder my immigrant colleague smiled when I offered to ring the INIS on his behalf.

Joke — like most public services in this country.
