IN response to Dick Barton’s brief assault (Letters, August 22) on the health professions admission test (HPAT) system, I feel it necessary to point out a few facts.

One of Mr Barton’s concerns seems to be that people “might have 600 points and have a father for a doctor but be rejected if they fail it” (HPAT).

Personality is not hereditary, and neither is ability.
