Healthy challenge

I READ with interest your report highlighting the difficulties facing people who experience mental ill-health (August 10). I wish to highlight a very successful mental health awareness event that took place on August 9 at Tipperary Racecourse organised by West Tipperary Mental Health Association.

It was a Guinness world record attempt at the largest rock-the-boat event when three Republic of Ireland soccer players led off the practice run of rock the boat.

This event was much more than an attempt to enter the record books. It was an opportunity to promote positive mental health, raise awareness of difficulties facing people who experience mental ill health and challenge the stigma associated with it.

The event was a huge success with more than 800 people “rocking the boat for mental health” and, hopefully, establishing a world record.
