Political guarantees are not beyond question

IN her letter (August 3), Lorna Jennings says the Lisbon guarantees are “beyond question”. These guarantees were political decisions by the current EU leaders. They are no more and no less than that.

I don’t know of any other political decisions, no matter how important, that can be, or should be, described as “beyond question”.

If political leaders took that attitude on these or any other issues it would lead to political stagnation at best or a form of dictatorship at worst. That kind of attitude is not what the EU needs at present.
