Resident saddened by decline of street

AS a resident of the Shandon Street area of Cork all my life I am deeply saddened at the way a once-thriving street has become a virtual slum.

I use “slum” with great reservation but it is the only word that fittingly represents the downward spiral of this famous old street.

This started with the renewal scheme which took place only recently and is still ongoing.
