Knowledge economy - Ambition and reality don’t match

TOMORROW over 55,000 young people will get their Leaving Certificate results.

For many it will mark the end of formal education, for others it will be a stepping stone along the way to further achievements.

Those who hope to join the shrinking workforce face huge challenges. Last week’s unemployment figures showed that 423,400 people were out of work in July. The Central Statistics Office tells us that some 95,400 of those are under the age of 25.
