View from the bubble

IT is often said that the theories of economists go awry because they live in a cosy world of figures and fail to take account of the most unpredictable factor – human nature.

View from the bubble

The Bord Snip recommendations are a particularly unpleasant example of this attitude.

Colm McCarthy and Peter Baker are strongly advocating drastic wage, welfare and service cuts but forget these would hurt real human beings.

Politicians exist in a similar bubble, but at least they have to face the electorate every so often.

I am praying this fact will prevent the implementation of the nastiest cuts.

Incidentally, Colm McCarthy, with his anti-public transport bias, once preached against the establishment of the DART – which turned out to be one of the Irish success stories of the past 25 years.
