Climate favours yes

I READ with mounting anxiety your report by Sharon Begley headlined ‘Climate change is far worse than anyone imagined’ (July 28).

One of the dangers of the current economic situation is that other non-financial though equally pressing concerns will be put on the long finger.

From the bleak picture painted by Ms Begley, we cannot afford to ignore climate change. That’s why I will be voting for the Lisbon Treaty. Environmental issues have noborders and, under the treaty, climate change will become explicitly a matter for the EU. There is no doubt Ireland will be better placed to tackle this issue with the full force of the EU behind it.
