I READ with interest Fergus Finlay’s column (July 14) on the nature of our low regard for TDs and the functioning of the Dáil. One doesn’t have to search far for reasons for this.

Why elect arrogant and powerless politicians?

What is one to make of the breathtaking arrogance of the TD who remarked recently he did not want to “clock in” to the Dáil like some factory worker?

The notion of democracy seems increasingly foreign to most civic authorities, too.
