Crux of the matter

I READ Colm O’Sullivan’s letter with interest (‘Depressing prospect if we vote down treaty’, July 23).

Crux of the matter

In it he talks about “moving the European project forward”.

I believe this is the crux of the debate.

While the Yes campaign warns of dire consequences if we vote no, and the No campaign warns of dire consequences of we vote yes, neither side is putting forward a vision of exactly where “forward” is?

If the Lisbon Treaty could be shown to be a step on the way to a rosy future, then it would have no difficulty being accepted.

However, the prospect of yet more harmonisation and further expansion is not appealing to me.
