Subservient symbols

FRENCH president Nicolas Sarkozy has expressed his displeasure with the wearing of the burqa and has deemed it to be unwelcome in France since it is “not a sign of religion, it is a sign of subservience”.

I couldn’t help but wonder if a similar announcement in this country might encourage parents to question their purchase of school stationary bearing the ubiquitous Playboy logo.

Was there ever a greater symbol of subservience?
