River jump photos were ‘insensitive’

THE Irish Examiner displayed appalling insensitivity in publishing photographs (June 23) of a young woman jumping into the Liffey and being taken from it.

River jump photos were ‘insensitive’

Did neither you nor the photographer not realise that this piece, while purporting to highlight the heroism of those involved in her rescue, must add to the difficulties the unfortunate woman so desperately sought to escape?

Did it not occur to you that she was entitled to privacy and respect at this extremely vulnerable moment?

Did you give any thought at all to the distress the photographs must have caused the woman’s family and friends?

Did you not realise that thousands of your readers who have been bereaved by suicide must find this type of sensational reporting of a very tragic issue deeply offensive?
