No point in hiding behind political correctness

I WAS rather confused by Andrew Lally’s letter (June 22) where he says Eric Conway (Letters, June 8) “libelled entirely innocent homosexuals through his description of paedophiles as predatory homosexuals”.

No point in hiding behind political correctness

To be fair, this is not what Mr Conway said.

He did say predatory homosexuals have abused children, and this is undoubtedly true, just as it is true to say predatory heterosexuals have abused children. Neither statement implies that all members of a sexual orientation are predatory, nor that all are child abusers. Mr Lally is undoubtedly (and perhaps understandably) sensitive on this issue, but surely now is not the time to start hiding behind political correctness?
