Time to weed out the sea lettuce scourge

YOUR columnist Damien Enright has highlighted the scourge of sea lettuce choking our lovely inlets and bays. Since moving to live close to the beach in Harbour View in Kilbrittain, Co Cork, unfortunately I have had to become used to seeing this phenomenon first-hand over recent years.

Time to weed out the sea lettuce scourge

While in Inchydoney last weekend I saw that the beach there is also afflicted by this scourge.

Why do we stand idly by while some of our most beautiful natural resources are being destroyed in this way.

Why are our legislators not acting to address this problem?

I am convinced that if the impact of similar levels of pollution were to be seen flowing daily down the streets of our towns and cities something would definitely be done about bringing the unholy mess to an end.
