Ryan Report - Much to do for children right now

History books will undoubtedly cite the Ryan Report as evidence of a reign of terror inflicted on vulnerable children in this country during the last century.

People can do little about those abuses now, but society should ensure that nothing similar ever happens again.

Yet serious questions must be asked about the current treatment of children. During its first independent inspections of the State’s four detention schools, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) found that the schools had not been inspected for three to four years.
