Agencies should combine to save meat industry

THE Government’s efforts to deal with the economic crisis – employment in particular – could precipitate social unrest among people out of work as they struggle to meet mortgage and other financial commitments.

On the jobs front, east Cork has been dealt another cruel blow with the news that Dawn Meats is to shed 130 staff at its factory in Knockgriffin, Midleton. Workers at the plant are confused and worried about the future.

Workers in this country, despite the best efforts of their unions, are grossly discriminated against and exploited when it comes to factory closures and staff cutbacks.
