End animal abuse

YOUR feature article on animal abuse (June 16) makes for horrific reading for anyone who cares for animals.

Thousands of animals live out their existence in dreadful conditions, chained up or confined to small spaces, lucky to have the odd bit of food thrown their way and far too often subjected to beatings and neglect. I applaud the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for its efforts to save animals at risk.

However, much more needs to be done countrywide.
