BY chance, I found George Orwell’s 1984 in a second-hand shop a while ago.

The nightmare of the insane ruling party that Orwell foresaw is happening here under Fianna Fáil.

I quote: “It is important for the party to combine a belief in their complete infallibility with an ability to learn from their mistakes.” And “doublethink is the power of holding two contradictory opinions in one’s mind simultaneously and accepting both of them” (For instance, Cowen’s positive support for fractional reserve banking while knowing it was totally dishonest and could only destroy the country).
