Government dodges the taxation bullet
Our leaders also chant the soundbite that they are awaiting the report from An Bórd Snip before tackling public service expenditure in a more fully and comprehensive manner.
They are losing the run of themselves and freewheeling rapidly downhill while remaining inactive going forward. They comfortably orbit the real world in their well-insulated space pods.
What you have here is a situation where everybody else is to blame for the economic mess. The range of excuses for inaction is diminishing faster than the rate of decline in the value of bank shares. It is an enormous miscalculation to treat ordinary people as fools.
Meanwhile, we will probably have to wait for a good day until after the elections before they release the bad news about taxation and cutbacks. We can expect some seismic shock and awe when the dam bursts.
To delay effective action is to shirk responsibility. The new anthem is “Procrastination Once Again” – otherwise known as “Buddy, Can You Spare a Cent?”
