Green supporters feel betrayed
They have now told us portentously and blandly that the Government has made “disastrous” mistakes. And which government is that?
The one to which the Green ministers gave retrospective approval when they accepted their golden calf seals of office in 2007 – sharing full constitutional, moral and political responsibility for all its policies and decisions. Or absence of same.
Do they not understand the numbing sense of betrayal felt in 2007 by those of us who have given our preferences to the Green party since it first appeared?
Then Bertie fluttered his eyelashes at them and offered them the greatest temptation of all for any politician – the chance to “get things done”.
A little chat with the Brians, aka the Gloom Brothers? A few token concessions? Or an opportunity for the pantomime of an orchestrated walkout?
Minister Gormley says we are “irrational”. Maybe we are indeed a tiny bit emotional and confused.
On the following Sunday night I watched The Week in Politics and a rerun of Fawlty Towers.
But I cannot remember now which was which.
