Let’s get taxi service up to standard

WITH all the recent complaints from taxi drivers over the issuing of licences and regulation, perhaps it is time to examine the quality of service we receive.

It is clear there are too many old, poorly maintained and unsuitable taxi cabs in use.

If we are to pay a standardised fare, we should expect a certain standard of service.

We should standardise all taxi vehicles in our larger cities as soon as possible. We should either insist drivers use London-style cabs or those seen in some European cities where all cars are a certain make and model less than eight to 10 years old.

We could then have taxi depots in our cities where all required parts and servicing would be the same so jobs could be done quickly and efficiently.

This would result in a safer, cheaper and cleaner service for all passengers.
