Junior ex-ministers suffer a big loss

I READ with dismay that five of our former junior ministers are to receive €53,000 in compensation for loss of office and will revert to a TD’s salary of €100,000.

On the face of it the payment may seem generous, but the recipients will suffer a substantial loss. If they held office for five years they would get a total payment of e125,000, increased pension benefits and have a higher standing in the community by virtue of their office. We should remember their sacrifice when the time comes.
