Special Olympics - Power of sport unites

Thousands of people took to the streets yesterday collecting on behalf of the Special Olympics movement, which seeks to help people with intellectual disabilities by harnessing the power of sport to unite people in the spirit of acceptance and inclusion.

We pay tribute to those volunteers who undertook the collection because they have been raising money for a worthy cause that has been changing lives and making a real difference not only for those with intellectual disabilities, but also their families and their local communities.

Great advances are being made. The problem of intellectual disability has been brought into the open and those people are now being celebrated rather than hidden.
