Nigerian mother deserves fair procedure

I AM writing in relation to the case of Pamela Izevbekhai’s who is seeking humanitarian leave to remain in Ireland with her two children.

Nigerian mother deserves fair procedure

We must remind ourselves that this is a case about two children and their mother, all whom are seeking the protection of the Irish state.

Ms Izevbekhai deserves fair procedure as does anyone else who seeks justice and in this regard it is imperative that public opinion is not unduly swayed when the facts of her case are yet to be fully adjudicated on.

Ms Izevbekhai comes from a country, Nigeria, where female genital mutilation is an everyday fact of life and she appears to be seeking to protect her children in this instance.

It is also important to keep in mind that people in the humanitarian leave to remain process face many challenges including, in some instances, documentation from their countries of origin.
