A truly bright idea to ease our energy crisis

AS a participant in Earth Hour on Saturday night I stood upstairs in my dark house overlooking the far lights of Cork city, Cobh and Watergrasshill.

A truly bright idea to ease our energy crisis

At precisely 8.30pm the sky turned a darker shade of dark. I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and hope. Pride because I am one of a great people — people who truly care. Hope because this moment confirmed one of my theories — there are millions of us so willing to help and do the right thing to save our world for future generations, but we need to understand.

We need to be informed, we need to be told the truth and most of all we need proper leadership, men and women who lead by example. I would like to ask the ESB to publish the amount of energy that has been saved during Earth Hour in Ireland and indeed worldwide. The energy crisis has not gone away even though energy prices are falling. A regular Earth Hour would be a great idea to save energy. I am certain people would gladly participate, it is the big players of this world I have serious doubts about.
