Questions & Answers should not be axed

RTÉ’s Questions & Answers programme is about to bite the dust, as did Today Tonight and other similar programmes that rubbed the Fianna Fáil governments up the wrong way.

Questions & Answers should not be axed

Before it was Charlie Haughey and his government who put pressure on RTÉ to axe these programmes and we took it lying down.

I don’t believe we should on this occasion. Are we not living in a democratic state where freedom of speech is paramount? Obviously not.

Over the past 23 years I have enjoyed this programme.

I have also enjoyed being a member of the audience on a number of occasions and being afforded an opportunity to put in my penny’s worth.

I congratulate John Bowman, all the Q&A team and RTÉ for doing a magnificent job. Quite honestly, a programme with such a high viewing rate should not be axed at the whim of a political party.

I suppose Joe Duffy’s Liveline will be next. I’m sure he has ruffled quite a few Fianna Fáil feathers in his time.
