Empire strikes back

RECENTLY I studied a course with the Open University, a British institution. Throughout they constantly referred to Ireland as being in the “British isles” and, when contacted, insisted that it was.

No great surprise here as I believe they have not updated their history books. What is surprising is that this institution receives funding from the Department of Education and Science.

Is it not wrong that while we have insufficient funding for our own education system, funds are available for a body that teaches its students that Ireland is British?
