In the wrong lane

YOU report (February 17) Deputy Jim McDaid’s suggestion that the Government should call a general election as “a way of saving the party”.

I’m sure he would be happy to sit on the opposition benches for a few years while he collects his Dáil salary and ministerial pension as he watches other people do the work

A lot of people would consider it was “the party” that was responsible for getting us into this mess to begin with.

Jim, don’t you think it would be a good idea to try to save the country rather than the party? After all, that’s what you were all elected to do.

Of course it wouldn’t be the first time Mr McDaid went against the traffic, as it were.
