Spared the axe

WHAT was most annoying about the Taoiseach’s Dáil announcement of the €2 billion cuts package was that 20 junior ministers were spared the axe.

It’s hard to believe not one of them has resigned or said they would do without their ministerial salary (extra €54,000 on top of the TD’s salary of e110,000 plus an expense allowance of €50,000 which is not audited, as well as the generous car allowance.

It is baffling, to say the least.
