Monstrous monument

I had the same experience as Patrick Fitzpatrick (Letters, January 22) when I tried to locate Béal na mBláth last summer.

Monstrous monument

This prompted me to write to you then (July 26, 2008). I also spoke of the experience on RTÉ’s ‘Liveline’.

However, Mr Fitzpatrick shouldn’t be too disappointed. If he does ever get to the place he’ll find it a great disappointment. A monstrosity consisting of a passable Celtic-style stone cross but surrounded by an appalling wall of painted red bricks and a set of railings which look like they were provided free of charge from the bargain basement of the local builders’ providers.
