No shortage of other places to worship

SO Cardinal Seán Brady believes the Bishop of Cloyne has learned his lesson and has no need to resign.

No shortage of other places to worship

How fortunate for Irish people that both states on the island guarantee religious freedom.

Irish women would do well then to choose a church and school carefully when seeking to protect their children from abuse and to give them the best moral and educational start in society. Fine, well-run, more democratic home-grown alternative Christian churches such as the Church of Ireland, Methodists, Presbyterians and the newer evangelical groupings are available to choose from.

There are Islamic and Jewish groups as well. The possibilities of agnosticism and atheism are available also, among others.

The Catholic Church has learned little. Galileo may have been rehabilitated, but the church steadfastly refuses to accept scientific knowledge regarding sex and sexuality.

Nor does it appear to listen to the views of its members.

These are hardly the best advertisements for an organisation seeking to help people cope practically, spiritually and morally with modern life.
