Dangerous road a matter for council officials
I agree with the views expressed.
For the record, all councillors of the Midleton area committee of Cork County Council attended an early morning meeting four years ago with residents and children to see the problem at ground level.
Since then the issue has been raised by all councillors at council level without success. Last month, I tabled a further proposal to have the footpath constructed in the interest of road safety. In reply, the meeting was advised “that no progress could be made until a legal transaction was sorted out with a third party.” At that meeting, all councillors protested at the negativity of the reply and requested the footpath be laid up to the area where the legal problem has arisen and to do so immediately.
Officials have promised to investigate this proposal and to have a report made available at the January meeting of the Midleton area committee. The problem is now one for council officials to sort out and councillors will not be silent until the footpath is constructed.
