Too much noise and light is a waste of energy

I THINK people should be entitled to take a few days off around Christmas to get together with family and to enjoy the last few days of the year.

Too much noise and light is a waste of energy

However, I believe some people go completely overboard at Christmas. There are towns which have erected speakers on the streets and play what are described as Christmas songs to get people into the ‘festive spirit’.

In reality, all this does is make it difficult to have a conversation on the street. Opinion polls carried out in recent years have shown Irish people to be in favour of reducing carbon emissions and being more responsible with the use of energy. Despite this, some people seem to think it necessary to spend hundreds of euro on expensive lights which require a lot of power. I think it is time people got a bit of cop-on and stopped wasting energy and money.
