Abortion findings came from an ‘ideologically committed’ association

I WOULD like to thank Dr Sandra McAvoy (Letters, December 2) for bringing the August 2008 report by the American Psychological Association (APA) to my attention.

Abortion findings came from an ‘ideologically committed’ association

As she states, it found “no evidence” sufficient to support any association between abortion and mental health problems for the women who choose to go this route.

This is an interesting finding because it is easy not to find what one is not looking for. The APA has been ideologically committed to abortion rights since 1969 and, in this instance, their ideological blindness overrode any objective search for truth. They set out to find no such association, and found none.
