Wind power won’t reduce emissions

IN his letter (November 19), Aidan O’Regan says that by 2020, one-third of all ESB’s output will be from renewables, mostly wind power.

Wind power won’t reduce emissions

His view that this will reduce harmful emissions is pure fantasy.

Because of its unreliability, wind power must always be fully backed up by conventional power plants all fired up and belching out CO2.

Consequently, there is no saving on fossil fuels or emissions and the combined carbon footprint is actually much worse than before.

Could it be that the ESB’s recent Pauline conversion to wind power is just sucking up to their new Green minister?
