Cowen out of tune as pork crisis erupted

LAST Sunday, in the midst of the pork scandal, I was aghast to see TV footage of our Taoiseach in Mullingar unveiling a statue to Joe Dolan.

Whatever about the way the Government has responded, the crisis certainly called for the captain to be in the wheelhouse. Senator Donie Cassidy, as always, was at Mr Cowen’s shoulder for the cameras and I am sure he could have done the honours.

I feel certain Joe Dolan would have understood if Senator Cassidy, who has an interest in music, performed the rituals while the Taoiseach was elsewhere grappling with the latest disaster to befall the nation.
